International usage for your business mobile
Call charges from your business mobile, outside of your inclusive minutes, can be very high even for usage in the UK. When using your phone to call overseas or when travelling abroad and calling back to the UK you should be aware of the extremely high rates networks can charge.
- Using your business mobile to call overseas from the UK
Generally speaking you should try to avoid using your mobile to call overseas from the UK unless you have made a prior arrangement with your network provider. If the call is not urgent you will normally be able to make it from a landline phone or via the internet, which is usually the cheapest option.
If it is a necessity for your business to call overseas regularly there are price plans which allow you to do so. For instance the Business Solo plan gives you calls to 27 countries out of your inclusive minutes.
We can advise you on the best plan for your business once we know which countries you are going to be calling regularly, likely duration of calls etc.
- Using your business mobile when travelling abroad
Caling back to the UK from overseas via your mobile phone can be a costly business.
European Roaming rates are coming down thanks to the EU pressurising the networks but frequent international usage is still going to land you with a big bill.
Before travelling you should contact your phone provider to get the best advice for the particular country you will be visiting. Special plans can be arranged to minimise your call costs.
For instance there is the Passport plan which charges a connection fee of 65p for each call with the minutes used coming out of your inclusive minutes. Just be careful you have enough minutes to cover all of your usage.
We can also supply sim-free mobile phone handsets to your business. This means that your phone is not locked to the network provider and you can use a local sim card for use when travelling.
For example if you were travelling to Thailand you could switch to a local sim card upon arrival and pay as you go, a few baht per minute. When you arrive back in the UK you swap the sim card back to your UK network provider.
We can advise you on the best options wherever you are travelling with your business mobile. For instance did you know you cannot use your existing handset in Japan? Their handsets work on a completely different system and you will need to have a Japanese version mobile phone.
